Look after your voice.

Great technique only goes so far if your vocal folds are dry, tired or irritated by reflux. These are the tools Benn recommends to his singers, from partners we trust, with exclusive Melody Matters discounts.

Why it matters

A healthy voice is a hydrated, rested one.

  • 01Hydration. Your vocal folds vibrate hundreds of times a second and rely on a thin, moist surface to do it smoothly. Water works from the inside, steam hydrates the surface directly.
  • 02Silent reflux. Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) lets stomach acid reach the throat, often at night and often without heartburn. It leaves the folds swollen and irritated, causing hoarseness, throat clearing and a voice that tires fast.
  • 03Efficiency. Semi occluded exercises like tube phonation balance the pressure around the vocal folds so they work with less effort, ideal for warming up and recovering.
  • 04Breath. Stronger breathing muscles mean longer phrases, steadier support and more stamina across a long day.

Night time

Stop reflux reaching your voice.

Lying flat lets acid travel up to the throat while you sleep. Raising your upper body keeps it where it belongs.
